Reasons for green pool water
High Copper Levels
High copper levels, usually in conjunction with a high pH level can discolour pool water turning it green.
Where does copper come from?
Copper can sometimes be found at low levels in mains water. It is also an ingredient in some long life algaecides. Copper levels should not be allowed to rise above 0.5mg/l (ppm). Treat with Goldhorizons Metal Klear.
There can be a number of contributing causes for algae growth:
- Poor Filtration – Ensure the filter is working efficiently
- Poor Circulation – Run the pump and filter for a minimum of 8 hours per day, although 24 hours per day is recommended if you have algae growth or cloudy water.
- Insufficient chemical treatment – ensure that sanitiser levels are maintained in the recommended range of 1 – 3mg/l free chlorine or 2 – 4mg/l Bromine. Also ensure that the pH level is kept in the recommended range 7.2 – 7.6.
- High Phosphate levels – Phosphates are a food source for algae. Levels above 0.3mg/ can start to encourage algae growth.
Remove existing algae growth and prevent future re-growth with Goldhorizons AlgiKill.
Test for phosphates and use Goldhorizons Phosphate Remover if necessary.
